Specialist Knowledge & Qualifications

Qualifications

In 2015 I completed my counselling training with a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (CPCAB), and have recently undertaken further training to become a Clinical Supervisor through the well established Counselling Tutor. In addition to my Counselling training, I also have a BSc (hons) Psychology degree (BPS).

Specialisms

As an experienced counsellor, I’m committed to continuously expanding my expertise to provide the highest quality support to my clients. I stay current through ongoing training, research, and professional development in areas that have the most impact on the people I work with.

I have both lived experience as a neurodivergent individual (being Dyslexic and suspected AuDHD) and specialist training in supporting clients with ADHD and Autism, having completed Level 2 certificates in Understanding Autism and Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties, with additional ADHD training through the Open University. This knowledge helps me create better neurodivergent-affirming therapy spaces where people can feel more able to be themselves.

Working with trauma is a core focus of my practice. I’ve trained extensively in trauma-informed approaches including Therapeutic Safety in Trauma, the Rewind Technique for treating trauma, as well as attending multiple workshops with trauma specialist Carolyn Spring, and several trauma conferences. I’ve been on a long journey to understand how trauma affects both mind and body, and now use evidence-based techniques to support regulating the bodies nervous system and to re-establish a sense of trust and safety.

I’m proud to offer affirming counselling for LGBTQIA+ clients. In addition to being queer myself and my longstanding work at The Enfield LGBT Network, I’ve completed specialist LGBTQ+ Awareness Training through The Outhouse and advanced workshops on enhancing the therapeutic relationship with GSRD (Gender, Sexual, and Relationship Diverse) clients, ensuring I provide knowledgeable, sensitive support.

My additional training over the years has covered a diverse range of therapeutic approaches and ways of working with clients, including specialist skills in addressing anger, shame, and suicide risk. These are areas where compassionate, informed support can make a profound difference in therapy outcomes.

With the COVID pandemic giving rise to more online therapy as a necessity, I’ve expanded my knowledge to include email counselling, as well as deepening my pre-existing knowledge and practice of video-calling and telephone therapy.

My work within Employee Assistance Programs led me to study and appreciate solution-focused therapy, whereas my work in schools with children and young people refocused my learning onto attachment theory, safeguarding and creative therapeutic techniques.

I believe that ongoing learning plays a crucial part in deepening my understanding of the human psyche, so I can best meet each client exactly where they are.
